Rives Bird is the Chief Executive Officer of Voxello and brings 20+ years experience as an executive in multiple medical device companies, and has launched multiple successful entrepreneurial ventures in Iowa.

Ben Berkowitz is the lead engineer of the noddle™ and Product Development Director at Voxello. He has experience as a researcher in biomedical engineering at the University of Iowa, and has developed and evaluated new medical devices at Cook Medical and at the Food and Drug Administration.

Richard Hurtig, Ph.D. is the Chief Scientific Officer of Voxello. In his role at Voxello Dr. Hurtig utilizes his 25 years as a researcher, during which he implemented and studied the use of assistive technologies and alternative and augmentative communication technologies in the University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics.
Director of Quality and Regulatory Affairs
Jerry Stack was previously the Global Director of Quality for Whirlpool and has 15 years experience in the field. He is certified as a Reliability Engineer and a Quality Engineer by the American Society for Quality. He graduated with an MS in Quality and Reliability Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a BS in Mathematics from the Virginia Military Institute.
Richard Wieland is a senior financial executive with a diversified Life Science business background with more than thirty-five years of business experience in both public and private companies. He completed over twenty capital transactions including two successful IPOs and eleven M&A transactions. Subsequent to the M&A transactions, he successfully managed the post-acquisition integration programs.
Aaron Warner is Chief Information Officer at Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT). He has served as the CEO of 3Prime, an IDT subsidiary, and is a member of several former governor’s IT advisory boards. Aaron is a founder of a non-profit organization, AnotherDoor, a qualified investor for the Iowa Plains Angels Venture Capital group, and a board member of the Technology Association of Iowa.
Richard Hurtig, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus in the department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (#1 Rated by US News & World Report) at the University of Iowa College of Arts & Sciences, and was on the faculty of the Neurosciences Ph.D. Program. Dr. Hurtig also directed the UI Assistive Devices Laboratory that works in close collaboration with University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and has authored a text on implementing Alternative and Augmentative Communication in Acute Care.
Susan Wood, Ph.D. has 15 years of experience championing innovative clinical solutions to the marketplace, from concept to revenue. Dr. Wood is President and CEO of VIDA Diagnostics, and received her Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, School of Hygiene and public health.
Greg Williams, J.D. is on the board of the University of Iowa Small Business Development Center, and is a patent attorney with a bachelors degree in physics, a law degree and an MBA all from the University of Iowa. Greg was an inhouse patent attorney for Rockwell International Corporation for many years and has practiced patent law for over 20 years.
Voxello was founded through the Iowa Medical Innovations Group (IMIG) at the University of Iowa. IMIG brings together students from the Colleges of Medicine, Business, Law, and Engineering to commercialize solutions to medical problems identified by clinical staff and faculty.
The IMIG student team consisted of Vince Hahn (business), Zihan Zhu (engineering), Blake Martinson (engineering), and Ben Berkowitz (engineering). Richard Hurtig, at that time a professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, served as the mentor for the project. Zihan is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of California-Berkeley, and Vince is now Product Manager at one of the leading U.S. healthcare product distribution corporations.
