Voxello was founded through the Iowa Medical Innovations Group (IMIG) at the University of Iowa.  IMIG brings together students from the Colleges of Medicine, Business, Law, and Engineering to commercialize solutions to medical problems identified by clinical staff and faculty.

The IMIG student team consisted of Vince Hahn (business), Zihan Zhu (engineering), Blake Martinson (engineering), and Ben Berkowitz (engineering). Richard Hurtig, at that time a professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, served as the mentor for the project.  Zihan is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of California-Berkeley, and Vince is now Product Manager at one of the leading U.S. healthcare product distribution corporations.
