Iowa Adaptive wins UI Student Business Model Competition

Iowa Adaptive was selected as the student winner of the University of Iowa Business Model Competition last Friday, March 28th at the Hawkeye Innovation Summit.  Ben Berkowitz presented the company's development of the Iowa SmartSwitch and the business model that will be used to market and distribute the device.  The Iowa SmartSwitch is an electronic device that helps patients communicate with their caregivers when they otherwise couldn't; for instance, an intensive care patient who normally couldn't move or speak due to paralysis and intubation could use an eye-blink sensor plugged into the Iowa SmartSwitch to call a nurse and communicate using a speech generating device by moving only his or her eyelids.  As the winner of the University of Iowa Business Model Competition, Iowa Adaptive earned the opportunity to compete and represent the University of Iowa among 40 international teams competing for seed money and recognition in front of a panel of renowned professors and entrepreneurs at the International Business Model Competition, which will be held May 1st - 3rd at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
